1. Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to SkoolBetter! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the SkoolBetter platform, including our website, applications, and all related services (collectively, the "Service"). SkoolBetter is operated from the United States ("we," "us," or "our").
By creating an account, accessing, or using SkoolBetter in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not use the Service.
If you are under 18 years old, you represent that your parent or legal guardian has reviewed these Terms and consents to your use of the Service.
We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes as described in Section 16. Your continued use of the Service after any changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
2. Eligibility and Age Requirements
Minimum Age: You must be at least 13 years old to create an individual account or use SkoolBetter. We use a neutral age gate (requesting a full date of birth) during registration. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through individual signups, in compliance with COPPA.
Users Aged 13–17: If you are between 13 and 17, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed these Terms and consents to your use of SkoolBetter. Your parent or guardian is responsible for supervising your use of the Service.
School-Created Accounts: School administrators may create accounts on behalf of students (including students under 13) with proper authorization, in accordance with FERPA and applicable school policies. For school accounts, the school is responsible for obtaining any required parental consent, including consent required by COPPA for students under 13.
We reserve the right to terminate any individual account if we discover the user is under 13 years of age. If you believe a child under 13 has created an individual account, please contact us immediately at legal@skoolbetter.com.
3. Account Registration and Security
To use SkoolBetter, you must create an account using Google OAuth (Google account login). You agree to provide accurate and complete information during the registration process.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and security of your account credentials. You must not share your login credentials with anyone else. You agree to notify us immediately if you become aware of any unauthorized access to or use of your account.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or engaged in activities that may harm the Service or other users.
4. Description of Service
SkoolBetter is a student productivity platform designed to help students manage their schoolwork more effectively. The Service includes the following features:
Google Classroom Integration: Syncs with your Google Classroom account to import courses, assignments, grades, due dates, announcements, and course materials.
Google Tasks Integration: Creates, edits, organizes, and deletes tasks in your Google Tasks to sync AI-generated study plans and assignment breakdowns.
AI-Powered Study Tools: Uses artificial intelligence (powered by OpenAI) to generate personalized study schedules, break large assignments into manageable tasks, and provide daily academic overviews.
Grade Analytics: Tracks your grades and provides visual progress reports to help you identify strengths and areas for improvement.
Email Reminders: Sends automated reminders about upcoming assignments and deadlines via email.
School Admin Dashboards: Provides institutional users with tools to manage and monitor student engagement at scale.
We may add, modify, or discontinue features of the Service at any time, with or without notice.
5. Google Integration and Data Access
SkoolBetter accesses your Google data through Google's APIs using OAuth permissions that you explicitly grant during the connection process.
5.1 Scope of Access
When you connect your Google account, SkoolBetter requests the following permissions:
Google Classroom — Announcements (read-only): View announcements in Google Classroom.
Google Classroom — Coursework (read-only): View coursework items including assignments, questions, and grades.
Google Classroom — Student Grades (read-only): View course work and grades for students in Google Classroom classes you teach or administer.
Google Classroom — Courses (read-only): View your Google Classroom classes.
Google Tasks (full access): Create, edit, organize, and delete all your tasks.
5.2 Revoking Access
You may revoke SkoolBetter's access to your Google account at any time through your Google Account security settings (myaccount.google.com > Security > Third-party apps). Revoking access may affect the functionality of the Service.
5.3 Google API Limited Use Compliance
SkoolBetter's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data retrieved from Google APIs is used exclusively to provide and improve the Service and is never sold to third parties.
6. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer
SkoolBetter uses the OpenAI API to generate personalized study schedules, task breakdowns, daily overviews, and learning suggestions. Please read the following carefully:
AI-generated content is provided for informational and productivity purposes only. It does not constitute academic, professional, medical, or any other form of professional advice.
AI output may occasionally contain inaccuracies, errors, or suggestions that are not optimal for your specific situation. You should always verify AI-generated information independently and use your own judgment.
SkoolBetter is not responsible for academic outcomes, grades, test scores, or any decisions you make based on AI-generated suggestions.
What data is sent to OpenAI: To generate your study plans and overviews, SkoolBetter sends relevant academic data such as assignment titles, descriptions, due dates, and grade information to OpenAI's API.
What is NOT sent to OpenAI: SkoolBetter does not send your email address, Google account ID, or other directly identifying information to OpenAI.
AI training: Per OpenAI's current API Data Usage Policy, data submitted via API is not used for training OpenAI's public models. We do not use student data to train AI models.
Provider changes: If SkoolBetter changes its AI provider in the future, these Terms and our Privacy Policy will be updated accordingly, and users will be notified of any material change.
7. Student Data Privacy and Compliance
Protecting student data is a core priority for SkoolBetter. We comply with the following regulations:
7.1 COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act)
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through individual signups. If we discover that a user under 13 has created an individual account, we will promptly delete their account and all associated data. Students under 13 may use SkoolBetter through school-provisioned accounts where the school has obtained the required parental consent.
7.2 FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act)
When SkoolBetter is used by schools or at a school's direction, we function as a "school official" with a legitimate educational interest in accessing student education records, as authorized under FERPA §99.31(a)(1) and documented in our Data Processing Agreement with each school. Student education records are used solely to provide the Service. Schools and parents retain all rights over student data as provided by FERPA.
7.3 GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
For users located in the European Economic Area or United Kingdom, we process personal data under the lawful bases described in our Privacy Policy, including contract performance and legitimate interest. EEA/UK users have the right to access, rectify, port, restrict processing of, and delete their personal data.
7.4 CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)
California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion of their data, and opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information under any circumstances.

8. Subscription Plans and Billing
SkoolBetter offers three subscription tiers:
Free: Core features including Google Classroom sync for a limited number of courses, basic reminders, one AI daily overview per week, and basic appearance customization.
Plus ($4.99/month): Everything in Free, plus unlimited courses, automatic background sync, email reminder automation, grade analytics dashboard, and daily AI overviews (7 per week) with 10 AI assistant messages per month.
Pro ($8.99/month): Everything in Plus, plus unlimited AI assistant chat, AI daily overviews, AI extra-instruction controls, all layout theme options, and early access to new features.
Payment Processing: All payments are processed securely through Stripe. SkoolBetter does not directly store your credit card or payment information. Stripe's handling of your payment data is governed by Stripe's own terms and privacy policy.
Auto-Renewal: Paid subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date.
Cancellation: You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account settings. After cancellation, you will retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.
Refunds: We do not provide refunds for partial billing periods, unless required by applicable law.
Price Changes: We may change subscription pricing with at least 30 days' advance notice via email. Price changes will take effect at the start of your next billing cycle following the notice period.
9. Acceptable Use Policy
You agree to use SkoolBetter responsibly and in accordance with all applicable laws. You must not:
Use the Service to cheat, engage in academic dishonesty, plagiarism, or circumvent school policies.
Share your account or login credentials with any other person.
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, scrape, or otherwise exploit the platform's code or data.
Upload, transmit, or distribute harmful, offensive, threatening, or illegal content.
Interfere with or disrupt the Service, its servers, or networks, or violate any requirements, procedures, or policies of connected networks.
Use the Service in any manner that could damage, disable, overburden, or impair the Service or interfere with other users' experience.
Use the AI assistant to generate content for the purpose of submitting it as your own academic work.
Violations of this Acceptable Use Policy may result in immediate suspension or permanent termination of your account, without prior notice or refund.
10. Intellectual Property
The SkoolBetter platform, including all original content, features, functionality, software, design, and branding (including the SkoolBetter name and logo), is owned by SkoolBetter and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
Your Data: You retain full ownership of any data you provide to SkoolBetter, including your assignments, notes, and personal information. By using the Service, you grant SkoolBetter a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to process your data solely for the purpose of providing and improving the Service.
AI-Generated Content: Study plans, task breakdowns, daily overviews, and other AI-generated outputs are provided as a service feature. You are free to use AI-generated content for your personal and educational purposes without restriction.
11. Third-Party Services
SkoolBetter integrates with and relies on the following third-party services to deliver its features:
Google (Classroom API, Tasks API, OAuth 2.0)
OpenAI (AI-powered study tools)
Stripe (payment processing)
Resend (email delivery)
Supabase (database and authentication infrastructure)
Vercel (application hosting)
Google Cloud Scheduler (background job scheduling)
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, content, or practices of these third-party services. When you use features that involve third-party services, you may also be subject to those services' own terms of service and privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.
12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure. We are not liable for any of the following:
Academic outcomes, grades, test scores, or performance resulting from use of the Service.
Missed assignments, deadlines, or scheduling errors, whether caused by AI suggestions, sync delays, or other issues.
Incorrect, incomplete, or misleading AI-generated content or suggestions.
Delays or failures in syncing data from Google Classroom, Google Tasks, or other third-party services.
Loss of data, whether caused by technical failures, account termination, or any other reason.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any and all claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the total amount you paid to SkoolBetter in the twelve (12) months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SkoolBetter, its operators, affiliates, officers, and agents from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from or related to: (a) your use or misuse of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; or (c) your violation of any rights of a third party.
If you are under 18, your parent or legal guardian agrees to this indemnification on your behalf.
14. Termination
By You: You may delete your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at legal@skoolbetter.com. Upon deletion, your personal data will be removed in accordance with the retention schedule described in our Privacy Policy.
By Us: We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without prior notice, if we reasonably believe you have violated these Terms or if continued use of your account poses a risk to the Service or other users.
Effect of Termination: Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease. The following sections of these Terms will survive termination: Intellectual Property (Section 10), Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability (Section 12), Indemnification (Section 13), and Governing Law and Dispute Resolution (Section 15).
15. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Dispute Resolution: Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or the Service shall first be attempted to be resolved through good-faith negotiation by contacting us at legal@skoolbetter.com. If the dispute cannot be resolved within 30 days, either party may pursue resolution in the state or federal courts located in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Class Action Waiver: To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to resolve disputes with SkoolBetter on an individual basis only. You waive any right to participate in a class action lawsuit or class-wide arbitration. This waiver does not apply where prohibited by law, including for users under 18 years of age in jurisdictions where such waivers are unenforceable against minors.
16. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will notify you at least 30 days in advance through email or a prominent in-app notification.
Your continued use of the Service after the updated Terms take effect constitutes your acceptance of the changes. If you do not agree with the revised Terms, you must stop using the Service and may delete your account as described in Section 14.
